Lawn Care Tips for Utah Homeowners
Utah's dry summers and cold winters put real stress on lawns. These pro tips keep yours thick, green, and healthy year-round.
Utah lawns face harsh conditions — hot dry summers, freezing winters, and mineral-heavy water. A little intentional care goes a long way.
Mow high. Set your blade to 3 to 3.5 inches. Taller grass shades the soil, holds moisture, and out-competes weeds. Scalping your lawn stresses the roots and invites weeds in.
Water deeply, not often. Two or three long waterings per week beat daily shallow ones. Deep watering trains roots to grow down, which makes your lawn more drought-tolerant.
Feed it four times a year. Early spring, late spring, summer, and fall. A balanced fertilization schedule keeps color and density up without over-pushing growth.
Aerate and overseed in fall. Utah clay soils compact fast. Aeration in September plus overseeding gives you a thicker, healthier lawn the following spring.
